My special order from joanns finally came in yesterday. I also made some very interesting finds into my foray into joanns for my special order. I found in the bargain bin a bolt of blue stretch pane velvet that I am going to use as a jacket for the vb dress. Please refer to vb coat diary. Also picked up some velvet green ribbon on clearance for .50 cents a yard. I was going to make some beaded chokers with this possibly to sell down the road but this all depends on if I can find the right findings for it. Update on the beaded bodice one panel left to bead!!! And then to put the rest of the clasps on the front, change out the fraying black braided ribbon on the left cuff for new ribbon that's not fraying and sew on the red seed beads around the left sleeve @ the shoulder.

the bead work on one side of the bodice is finished. Ill need two more vials of the black seed beads to finish it and another spool of 3/8 black sheer ribbon and one more set of six heart clasps. Then its on to the skirt…..

ok im trying to calculate exactly what materials ive used already and how much the dress has cost to date. i believe the following is correct. the price reflected below is before tax and spent over the course of a year.
ok let see how much the dress has cost me to date. 1 spool of 7/8 black sheer ribbon @ 3.99 / 1 spool 5/8 black sheer ribbon @ 3.99 / 2 spools 3/8 black sheer ribbon @ 3.99 / 2 vials of black seed beads @ 1.94 / 1 vial purple seed beads @ 1.94/ 1 vial blue seed beads @ 1.94 / 1 vial red seed beads @ 1.94 / 1 set of six heart jewelry clasps @ 1.94 / 2 yards icy lavender broadcloth @ 2.99 yard / 10 yards icy lavender broadcloth for skirt @ .99 yard / 1 spool 1/4 black sheer organdy ribbon @ 1.99 / 1 skein red metallic embroidery floss @ 2.99 / 1 spool craft wire @ 3.99 total cost = 15.96 + 11.64 + 5.99+9.90 +1.99 +2.99 + 3.99 = 52.46

an epiphany.... "i think ive just had an apostrophe" " i think you mean an epiphany" "lightning has just struck my brain!" " well that must hurt" - exchange between Smee and Cptn. Hook, Hook 1991
ive just had an epihpany - rather than try buttons and fuck up this gorgeous dress i thought well maybe there is something i can use to make it tie in the front like the original dress but still make the dress my own design but based on the lemony snicket dress. while i was at the ever fabulous wal - mart yesterday i thought about looking in the jewelry and beading section of theyre craft department and i found it. a heat shaped clasp and toggle set. to boot i also found the correct size of red seed beads for around the sleeves. so i picked those up and can now return the gargantuan red pony beads i bought @ micheals if i can ever find the package. apparently yesterday was all about epiphanies becuase not long after that one i had yet another. the second was i foudn a roll of ribbon around my house. sheer organza black ribbon in 1/4 inch. instead of painting on the pinstripes on the skirt i might be able to applique the stripes on to the underskirt. we'll see how that works.

ok, so the violet baudelaire dress has morphed into this civil war era goth gown that looks fucking gorgeous!!! while i only have the top 90% completed what i have in my head i think will catapult me into the fashion world at least as far as my future costume shop goes. the dress in question is icy lavendar broad cloth appliqued with 7/8" sheer black ribbon and berry wine trim. black lace collar was added today. as for the belle skirt it will be the same icy lavendar broad cloth painted with fine strips of grey then overlayed with sheer black organza with a 3 way box pleat in lavendar, berrywine, sheer black organza.
future projects:
1.)"christening" gown for Connor. ( i use the term christening loosely as its he only way to describe what i have in mind. the gown itself is a onetime shot meant for his naming ceremony and family photo op.) the gown is based off of Sunny's costume in A Series of Unfortunate Events however as his being a boy instead of pink i opted for a emerald green jewel toned crinkle silk fabric overlayed with pewter grey sheer organza. as for trim im not sure whats going to happen i have lots of black lace to recycle but his being a boy lace seems a little impractical. we'll see how it goes when i get to construction. im hoping to start the next two projects roughly at the same time i start my skirt. with any luck before the baby shower...... (Not Started)
2.) lemony snicket count olaf costume for Cory. this costume has heavy applique work as well. this is evident as all the peices i.e. vest, topcoat, and pants are all appliqued. in studying this costume it has been found that the top coat was made of some sort of purple fabric appliqued in black velvet. Cory decided he didnt want purple to match me. instead opted for a color just a bit more masculine in hunter green. im not sure at this time what color im going to make the vest but the vest ive noticed is a muted color like the purple topcoat but overlayed with sheer organza and then appliqued with black velvet.
ive got a lot of work ahead of me..... sigh* but im a glutton for punishment i guess.

ok. so the violet baudelaire dress took a turn for the better. an innovation. the epiphany struck while thinking about my charachter for vampire the masquerade and while watching the movie tombstone for inspiration. ( for those of you who know and care what vampire the masquerade is my character is a southern belle turned blockade runner and gambler. given that my character is from the south. at first i wanted to try a hoop dress. then i couldnt afford the yardage. so i turned to my new favorite movie. lemony snickets a series of unfortunate events. violets dress is so wonderfully goth and yet light i thought i would try it. after sevral snags and trials at drafting a pettern i thought i could take a civil war era gown and adapt the patter for what i needed. this proved disasterous in the end and halfway through the bodice i wondered if i couldnt make a dress that was still civil war era and goth as violets was. so for dress version 2.0 a civil war era gown lemony snicket style.

i would like to make a statement before i make my next gown to avoid nasty accusations. the gown in question is a civil war era rebel gown worn by the type of women loyal to the old south. this gown is for recreational reenactment purposes and does not advocate the support or sympathy for a would b rogue nation that sought to keep fellow human beings in bondage. this issue is not condoned and regarded as most evil. however i would like to point out that my family to which i hold dear has its grass roots in the south therefore i do consider myself a daughter of the confederacy. as a daughter of the old south i also must state for the record according to my knowledge my family did not own slaves nor were we powerful nor inffluencial. while it may be worn occassionally for non recreational uses it is only a fashion statement not meant to fan racial tensions which in my predonimantly latino neighborhood would only encourage an enferno. i am fashions slave as are all women who prefer corsets and garters to todays drab modern dress

3 project updates......
ok. so i have at least 3 projects going on right now. the first is the xmas civil war gown i was making as a present. its still not done but at current stages it was fitted and is ready for attaching to the skirt which i think im going to put in a draw string and have lace up the back with sage green and purple ribbon intertwined through a series of jump ring sewn into the garment. for the time being it has been set aside untill funds become available to buy much needed trim and furbulough to finish it. STATUS : ON HOLD.
the second garment that im working on recently came out of being on hold statuts. it was dug out of a drawer one day when i got bored. it is simplicity pattern # 4900 in skye blue stretch velvet that was found at a joanns bargain bin. the final sleeve was attached 2 days ago and trim purchased yesterday to finish it. unfortunately we didnt get enough and have to purchase more. STATUS: ON HOLD.
the third garment that im working on is a dress based somewhat loosely off of a Colleen Atwood Design. it is a civil war era day dress based off of the violet baudelaire gown. purple / black sheer goodness. mmmm..... unfortunately i didnt get enough trim that was used for the coat above to finish a cuff . STATUS : ON HOLD.
